Alpharetta (Ga.) quarterback Joshua Dobbs committed to Arizona State on Wednesday afternoon.
Dobbs, who carries an 87 rating as a three-star prospect for 247Sports, had seen his stock climb during the spring as one of the more interesting prospects in the southeast based on his strong academic profile and favorable camp showings.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder visited ASU in late May as part of a tour to various parts of the country to see interested suitors.
Dobbs has held offers from Ivy League schools as well as Boston College, Duke, Mississippi State and Wake Forest, among other candidates.
He has never missed a day of school and carries a 4.0 GPA.
“What stood out about Arizona State is that mainly, academically, they had the major I wanted to study: aeronautical engineering,” Dobbs said. “It’s rare to find at the undergraduate level.
“Plus there was the chance to sit down and get to know (assistant) coach (Mike) Norvell and coach (Todd) Graham, and it’s a really good fit for me.”
As a junior, Dobbs threw for 3,113 yards and 29 touchdowns.
