The phrase “he’s a man amongst boys” has long been a saying used to describe someone who, whether physically or skill-wise, is at a level well beyond his peers. And, like all cliché sayings, it’s been overdone. So saying Brian Manuel, an offensive and defensive tackle out of Kinston, North Carolina, is a man amongst boys doesn’t do him justice. He’s a semi-truck and the Tasmanian Devil fused together in a freak science experiment, with the result being 6’4” and 291 lbs. of destructive football force.
Manuel, also known as Big B, has been a dominating figure of the Rochelle Middle School team, and instead of attending one of the local preparatory academies in his area, he will start his freshman year at Kinston High School in the fall. He has already been asked by the varsity coach to work out with the varsity team during spring training, and he hopes to make an immediate impact on a team that finished as state champion runner-up last year.
Last year, Manuel was selected as the No. 1 Youth1 Defensive Line Prospect in the nation, as well as a top ranked offensive lineman and a finalist for the 2011 Youth1 Male Athlete of the Year award. His outstanding play on field also earned Manual a spot in both the Junior Rank Academic All-American game and the Eastbay Youth All-American Bowl, with him opting to take part in Junior Rank’s game.
